Thanks, too, to the Teacher Appreciation Team, led by Kama Moseley and Melissa Carnes for providing a delicious dinner for us on Thursday night, breakfast on Friday morning and snacks to enjoy during the day. We are so spoiled and so appreciative!
iPad Sightings -- The iPads are all set up and already in demand! The tech team has been hard at work configuring and updating each iPad and evaluating some very interesting apps. The teachers have had some training and have lots of great ideas for classroom use. There will be an iPad cart in each building and the carts are available for signup. The apps will be updated and evaluated throughout the year. We’d like to thank the teachers and students that have contributed app recommendations and assisted with evaluation. We can’t wait to see how the use of these amazing tools evolves over the next year. Thank you, parents, for this great opportunity!
Let Your Imagination Soar: Read! Please join us for family and community hours at the book fair on Sunday November 6th from 11:00-3:00 in the gymnasium where you can
peruse a fabulous selection of books and choose one (or more!) to read with your child! Book fair festivities begin this Friday with a school wide buddy D.E.A.R. time (drop everything and read) immediately following all school chapel. Buddies will pair up and read some of their favorite books together for half an hour. The read-a-thon challenge encouraging each child to soar through many adventures and read, read, read will run from Friday through Tuesday with the class that reads the most pages earning the opportunity to fly kites on the field. On Monday November 7th local authors/illustrators will visit each divisional chapel to share one of their books. Then all students will visit the book fair on Monday or Tuesday. A number of wonderful accomplishments, from grades to college acceptances, have come in to the school already this year. We would like to request that parents or graduates go to our website and complete the information in the alumni section so current parents and others can share in these great accomplishments. Unfortunately only Notre Dame de Sion shares the complete list of our honor roll students each quarter so we depend on parents and the graduates to tell us what’s happening at the other schools. It’s a fledgling part of the website now – so let’s fill it up with all the great news!
Communion of Saints Chapel: On Friday, November 4, we will be celebrating the Communion of Saints at All School Chapel. Families are invited to send a flower/flowers in honor of a deceased family member or friend who is now with God, regardless of how long ago they joined the Communion of Saints. Additionally, if families have experienced a death in the last twelve months, they are invited to e-mail Chaplain Nolan with the name of the person who died. We will light a votive candle on the altar in their honor.
Now is the time to submit sibling and St. Paul's Church member applications for the 2012-2013 school year! Please contact the admissions office with names and addresses of families that may be interested in attending our annual Open House on Sat., January 7th. Siblings of current St. Paul's students and active St. Paul's church members receive admissions priority until the first Friday of December (Dec. 2nd).
St. Paul’s staff concentrate on getting the cars in carline loaded efficiently and move many cars at one time into position to leave. You might consider joining the carpool line after 3:40 to make your student pick up safer. The car line process cycles more quickly at that time, saving you time and keeping you safe.
Join the Kansas City community at St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. for a free public screening of “Food, Inc.” This movie is rated PG and is approximately 90 minutes. After the movie, a panel of local experts will provide resources and ideas on how you can eat local and get off the corporate food train! There will be prizes, coupons and more. Don’t miss this chance to engage in a lively community discussion! Food is one of the most important things you’ll ever buy for your children. And yet, most people never bother to think about their food and its source.
Panelists will include:
Beth Low, Director of the Greater Kansas City Food Policy Coalition, a broad coalition of individuals, organizations, businesses, and government representatives in the nine county metropolitan area. The mission of the GKCFPC is to promote policies which support a sustainable food system in which all people have access to affordable, healthy foods.
Joe Bichelmeyer - Bichelmeyer Meat Market. The Bichelmeyer family has been providing meat to Kansas City, Kansas and the surrounding area since the 1890s. They raise cattle, offer custom slaughtering, aging and smoking of fine grass-fed cattle.
Kim Wells, Fitness and Nutrition expert. Kim graduated from KU Medical Center in 1994 with her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy. She is passionate about empowering others to understand that simple choices in nutrition and fitness can make a profound difference in their health, athletic performance and quality of life.
Leigh Wagner, MS, RD, LD. Integrative Medical Nutrition Therapy, University of Kansas Hospital
Katie Nixon, Small Farm Specialist, Jackson County. Katie, a graduate of St. Paul’s, delivers information and education to the under-served small farmers and ranchers on a one-on-one basis in order for them to improve production and farm income.
Chef Joy of Bistro Kids. After receiving a degree in Food and Beverage Management from Johnson County Community College she began cooking for children at Bistro Kids.
Door to Door Organics, Local Director, Shane. Door to Door Organics will help you eat better and skip a trip to the store with organic produce and all-natural groceries from farmers and producers you can trust.
