Monday Morning Memo

Two successful Curriculum Nights have occurred and we look forward to the third this week.
This Thursday, Aug. 29, prekindergarten and kindergarten parents are invited to meet with Sheila Abio, Early Childhood Division Head and the Specials Teachers in the north wing multipurpose room at 6:00 to begin the evening.  Child care is provided by pre-arrangement with Karen McDonald at kmcdonald@speds.org.
Lower School Curriculum Night will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 6:00 p.m.

This is a special Friday in our school year.  It includes:
-         It is our first Eucharist service of the year for students in grades 3 – 8.  The toddler through second grade students will go to the church on Thursday, August 29 for a service there that will not include a Eucharist, and will have chapel in their commons area on Friday.  Third grade students and those new to the school have received or will receive more information about this service before they attend it.
-         Our first SPIRIT DAY, a day when students and faculty are encouraged to show their St. Paul’s Spirit by wearing school spirit wear.  We hope your children will want to  join in the fun and the spirit!

There will be no classes or child care on Monday, Sept. 2nd as we observe the Labor Day holiday.

Two special events will be happening on the weekend of Sept. 20:
The Family Fun Fest, a special afternoon/evening of carnival-type games for the students will take place on Friday, Sept. 20 from 3:45 – 6:30.  You will be hearing more about this from your child’s room parents soon as we need lots of help from parents to provide our children this fun opportunity.  We hope you’ll plan to join us.
The Fifty and Fabulous Progressive Dinner, a sign-up event from last year’s auction, will take place on Saturday night, Sept. 21.  Those who signed up last year should have received your invitations by now but, if you have not or if you have questions about the evening, please contact Mark or Lisa Ebbitts at 816.223.3242.

Get ready to Get Your Groove On... The Buddy Run is coming!  To help us gear up, SPIN Pizza on Main Street will be donating a portion of sales every Tuesday in September to our fall fundraiser, The Buddy Run.  Fliers will go home this week.

A reminder from the Business Office regarding your student billing statements:
  • Since July 2012, statements have been sent out electronically, via an email from Christina Cutcliffe as a PDF attachment. To ensure that you receive these statements (and avoid them going to your spam folder), please add her email (ccutcliffe@speds.org) to your safe senders list. Statements are emailed to the ‘family’ email address. A student with two households will receive individual statements at each respective email address. Christina is happy to add additional email addresses to the list of those that receive statements—just email her.
  • You will not receive a printed statement. Should you wish to keep a paper statement for your records, simply print out the PDF attachment. Thank you for helping St. Paul’s save trees and postage costs!
  • If your overall account has a zero balance, you will not receive a statement that month. Additionally, if you have more than one child at school and a child’s account has a zero balance, he/she will not appear on your statement, even if overall you have a balance due from your other children.
  • You are still responsible for paying any charges that accrue to your account in a timely fashion, or interest will be charged at the rate stipulated in your enrollment contract.
  •  You should have received 1-2 statements by now. If you have not, please check your family email account’s spam folder.  If the statements aren’t there, contact Christina Cutcliffe (ccutcliffe@speds.org) immediately.
It is your responsibility to notify the school should your official email address change. You can do this by sending the new address to our Registrar, Steve Darnell, at (sdarnell@speds.org).

Just a reminder about notes, fliers, and other information parents would like to send home to students:  All such information must be cleared by the Division Head before they can go out to families.  We do not send any information about for-profit businesses and all not-for-profit events need to be cleared by the Division Head and the development office.  This is by board policy and is meant to protect you from getting a lot of solicitations and it protects us from being seen as supporting one business or event over another.  Thank you for your cooperation on this.
