Thank you to all who made the retirement chapel and reception for Ms. Twyman so successful! We appreciate all who came to share in the celebration of her 35 years of teaching at our school. Thanks to Pauline Henne for organizing the reception food and to our food service personnel for preparing it.
On Tuesday, May 15 at 8:00 a.m., we will dedícate two trees in memory of Lathrop Gates. Mr. Gates was part of the team of people who rebuilt the school when it burned in 1992. Lathrop was the main fundraiser for the project, a trustee on our board and on that of the Barstow School, and was the father of two daughters who graduated from St. Paul’s. All those who wish to join us are welcome on the upper field behind the bleachers.
The last Parents' Guild meeting of the year will be this Thursday at the home of Britton Norden (2221 Drury Lane S.M, KS), at 7:00 p.m. Every St. Paul's parent is a member of Parents' Guild and is welcome to attend! We will be conducting a bit of business as well as celebrating a very successful year and transitioning to next year's Chairs. Please RSVP to Britton at britton3@mac.com and let her know if you can make it. Also, The Parents’ Guild Executive Board (the elected officers) conducted its annual, required review of Bylaws and voted to present an Amendment to the membership. The Amendment is posted in the Parents' Guild section of our website. This serves as notice of Bylaw Amendment, and the membership will vote on the changes at Thursday's Parents’ Guild meeting. Middle School finals will be held Monday – Thursday of this week. The finals will occur during the students’ regular class times.
The second grade spring music program will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 17 in the north wing multipurpose room. These engaging performers, under the direction of Mrs. Haskamp, will entertain family and friends with their happy music making.
This Friday we will celebrate Spirit Day and Feed the Need Friday! Show your St. Paul’s colors and help restock the pantry with any non-perishable food ítems you would care to bring.
The first through fourth graders enjoyed stocking up on some “new” books when almost 450 books were swapped with friends last week! Thanks to all those who participated in the inaugural Soar Into Summer: Read! program sponsored by the book fair committee. We hope to make it an annual event!
The Metropolitan Private School League (MPSL) voted last month to eliminate fifth grade sports from the middle school athletic program. Several of the schools had discontinued participation with their fifth graders, leaving only St. Paul’s, Pembroke Hill and Heritage Christian offering participation to fifth graders. Although the council tried to continue a program for fifth graders with just three schools, it had become apparent that there were not enough teams to create a competitive league. This means that our students and all others in this league will not begin competing in school-sponsored teams until the sixth grade. We will continue to offer tennis, which we control individually, and lacrosse, which is part of the KC Metro Girls Lacrosse Association (KCMGLA) and the KC Youth Lacrosse League (KCYLL), to our fifth graders. If you have questions or concerns about this decision, please contact Randy Kurt, our Athletic Director and our representative to this league at rkurt@speds.org. We regret this change of events and hope students will remain active in their YMCA and other sponsored leagues.
The results of the Grand Concours French Exam for the 7th and 8th Graders are now available. The test was given to 7th -12th graders in March. 90,000 students participated this year. Below are our Kansas City Chapter Results and the National Results.

Sadly the faculty lost once again to the “Swagg Dooskies” otherwise known as the green team in the dodge ball tournament last Wednesday. The good news is that $288 was raised for Haiti just through playing dodge ball, and we had a lot of fun doing it. And none of the faculty got hurt either!
