Thanks to our sixth grade students and the MS acting and
performing arts electives’ students for a great finale to our Christmas
programs last Thursday. The audience
experienced every emotion from laughter to near tears, as this talented group
of singers and actors performed for us, under the direction of Mrs. Everly and
Mrs. Rousey. Ethan Lane, a seventh grade
student, set the tone for us by playing Christmas music on the piano prior to
the beginning of the show.
Today we welcome, Maryvonne Marshall, who will be
substitute teaching for Amanda Loflin, during her maternity leave. Mrs. Marshall is a retired, very experienced
French teacher, who will work with Ms. Ahrens for a smooth transition during
Mrs. Loflin’s absence.
Speaking of Mrs. Loflin,
on Wednesday evening at 7:58 p.m., Osa Marie Harper was born to
Amanda and husband, Chris Harper. She
weighs 7 lbs. 13 oz. and is 21 3/4 in. long.
She’s absolutely beautiful and they are enjoying “the best Christmas
present ever”!
Mrs. Haskamp and her husband, Ben, welcomed Charlotte
Grace to their family on December 3rd. Mom and baby are doing well and adjusting nicely
to their new lives.
As you visit and share Holiday Cheer with friends and
neighbors, please remind them of our Admissions Open House scheduled for

If you are
planning to apply for tuition assistance for the 2014-2015 school year, the school is now accepting
applications online, via FACTS Grant and Assessment (the company that processes
our applications). There are some key differences in this year’s application
process, so please read on for this important information: New Deadline: Current families must
complete an online application and submit all necessary supporting
documentation to FACTS by December 31, 2013. This is approximately two
weeks earlier than previous years, so please plan accordingly. Note that an
application is not considered complete until all supporting documentation has
been received by FACTS. New
website/login: FACTS has
updated their site, including a new website address, so if you applied for
assistance last year, you will need to create a new User ID and password in
order to access the system this year. You will also have to enter your
information (name, address, etc.) again—the updated platform unfortunately did
not retain this from last year’s application. More information, including the
amount of assistance you could receive, is available here.

Please remember that your application must be completed by December
31, 2013. If you do not meet the December 31st
deadline you will receive a full tuition re-enrollment contract for the
2014-2015 school year.
Our new and fully expanded “In Harmony Choir” performed
two songs for us in all-school chapel last Friday. Today they will sing at both lower school
chapels and then share their gifts with the larger community, singing at Bishop
Spencer Place, Brighton Gardens, and Claridge Court. Many thanks to these students for their
commitment of time in practice and performance and to Mrs. Everly, their Choral
Director, and Ms. Meli, who assists Mrs. Everly.
This week our toddler through second grade chapel will be
in the church on Thursday. This is
because our third through eighth graders will be celebrating with Eucharist on
Friday in the church. Please feel free
to join us for either or both chapel services, especially since there will be
more room for everyone in each service!
Want to start your season by singing with the students? We are caroling in the foyer of the south
building this morning through Thursday morning.
The Dickens Carolers will be here on Friday morning. Please feel free to come join us for any or
all of these!
But please don’t park in the Walnut St. carpool line! That is meant to be a moving line so please
do not park there, or even remain stationery there for any length of time. We – administration and your fellow
carpoolers – appreciate this courtesy and it’s really a necessity to keep
things moving!
Friday will be Spirit Day and Christmas parties will take
place throughout the school. Middle
school students will go to spend the afternoon at Incredibowl; third through fifth
graders will go to their skating adventure; and the other classes will have
parties in their classrooms.
Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 7, after the
holidays. Child care is available by
pre-arrangement for Monday, Jan. 6, and on several other days during the
holiday – the schedule for which Mrs. McDonald has distributed in the last few
weeks.
Faculty will return a day early – on Monday, January 6
-- to continue their work on curriculum development,
with the alignment of essential skills across grade levels; training on Smart
Board for the ECC and others in the school who want more information; asthma
awareness training by our nurse, Mrs. Kuhls; and a mentor meeting.
We wish you all the best for this Christmas and New Year
holiday, including, but not limited to safe travels, happy times with
family and friends, new opportunities, relaxation, and a recharging of the
batteries for the second half of our school year. Thank you for your support
in 2013, especially in trusting us with your very special children.
